Support for Victorian renters, landlords and commercial tenants

The Victorian Government has announced a $500 million package designed to assist Victorian renters, landlords and commercial tenants that have been impacted by COVID-19.

For landlords: $420 million in land tax relief for landlords who provide tenants with rent discounts. Landlords will receive a 25% discount on land tax if they provide tenants with rent relief. Any remaining land tax to be deferred until March 2021.

For tenants: $80 million in rental assistance for Victorians experiencing rental distress, payments will be capped at $2000. Evictions and rental increases will be banned for residential tenancies for six months. For more information visit: www.housing.vic.gov.au/help-renting/rentrelief

For commercial tenants: Eligible small and medium-sized businesses can apply for rental waivers or deferrals. Evictions will also be banned for six months for the non-payment of rent for commercial tenancies for small and medium-sized businesses.
