RedZed’s head of marketing Angelo Klidomitis reviews small business podcast episodes you should listen to this summer. This week, it’s an episode of How I Built This with Guy Raz.

Episode 49: Cathy Hughes, Radio One

Running time: 33 minutes

In this NPR podcast series, host Guy Raz talks to a wide range of innovators and entrepreneurs to get the stories behind some of the world’s most innovative businesses.

You’ll find interviews with the likes of Herb Kelleher (Southwest Airlines), Joe Gebbia (Airbnb) and James Dyson (Dyson appliances) among many others.

I’ve selected an interview with Cathy Hughes, the founder of US media organisation Radio One, which is now known as Urban One. Few people in Australia know her story, but it’s one that I found really inspiring.

Are you thinking about finance for your business? See how RedZed can help, and find out if a RedZed loan is right for you.

Cathy’s journey is not so much a story of innovation, but rather one that demonstrates what happens when someone decides that they are going to achieve their dream, irrespective of any obstacles placed in front of them.

Cathy is also a very engaging and passionate speaker. One interesting part of the episode is her story about dealing with the banks to try and get her business off the ground.

I hope you enjoy it. You can find this episode on iTunes and the NPR website.
