We hosted and sponsored a number of events for self-starters during 2018.
Our Brand of Sisters events in Melbourne and Sydney each featured female entrepreneurs presenting their stories and their work.
In Melbourne, freelance illustrator Ellen Porteus spoke about about working for Bill Gates, Disney, The New York Times, The Guardian and Adidas.
In Sydney, Nancy Liang’s tale of taking her unique, mixed-media style to the worlds of Hermes, Mini Cooper and SBS Australia was equally inspiring.
At both events, Jess Hatzis from Frank Body and Willow & Blake spoke about the challenges and successes of growing two enterprises from scratch.
In November, we were proud to sponsor RedZed x One Roof Paving The Way at One Roof Melbourne.
It was a night of inspiration as a panel of four successful self-starters – Justin Dry from Vinomofo, Cyan Ta’eed from Hey Tiger, and Hannah Spilva and Verity Tuck from LVLY – spoke candidly about their passions, challenges, failures, and successes.
The panel discussed how self-starters can achieve an elusive but important work-life balance, but came to the conclusion that what works best for one person isn’t necessarily right for the next.
We learnt what makes a successful small business partnership. According to the panel, that means having complementary skillsets, setting ground rules early on, and being able to have open, honest and hard conversations.
